I was fortunate to listen to and watch Obama

This is the second part of a post I wrote a few weeks ago on my evening in Cologne/Germany with Barack Obama and my perception of him as a great leader.

In this second part, I would like to share the notes taken by my daughter’s boyfriend — a great admirer of Obama I discovered - who faithfully jotted down most of what Obama had to say to us. In his words he likened the evening to a whole university degree in a very inspiring one-hour session.

Leadership key learnings we learned from Obama

These are pieces of advice which Obama shared with us on engaging with others based on his own personal experiences as an individual and as a president.

Let us ‘tick off the boxes’ according to what we already do and what we should consider and implement in our dealings with the people we live and engage with.

People and their stories

Be of service to people

Listen, everyone has a story to tell

People feel insecure - their old story

Teach people to do things for themselves
