I agree, rogue4gay, to live in a society where racist categories do not exist would be an ideal world and worth striving for. I’m sorry if you feel thrown at by my use of the term “white”. ‘White’, I’m afraid is the official ethnicity classification for both the USA and Britain.

White British is used for the native white population identifying as English, Scottish, Welsh, Cornish, Northern Irish, or British in the United Kingdom Census.

In official U.S. classifications, “Hispanic”/”Latino” is an “ethnicity” while African American/Black, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander, and European American/White are “races.”

The construction ‘white race’. which dates back to the 17. Century, was invented as a socio-economic justification for expanding slavery to the horrific extent it did. Since then, white privileges have enforced the myth of racial superiority, and this has been central to maintaining domination over ordinary working people especially those of colour throughout American history.

The concept of “white” is ingrained in the psyche and, unfortunately, still rules supreme.

The term “race” should anyway be abandoned, and substituted with “ethnic group” while retaining “racism,” with the goal to dismantle it.

If I came to USA looking for a job, somewhere to live, accessing the medical system, education etc. and if I had the choice, I think I would prefer to be "white" over Black, if only temporarily. Would be easier. Sounds awful, I know.

Being Black is exhausting. I have a lot of Nigerian family in the States.
