I live in Cork/Ireland and I must say almost everyone thanks the bus driver when they get off, old and young, national and foreign. I lived in Germany for forty years before moving back to Ireland almost two years ago and every time I got back to Germany after a holiday in Ireland I’d automatically continue thanking the bus drivers. This was usually met with a look of “huh?” “what’s up?” until I’d realize I was in the wrong country and stopped. You don’t usually thank bus drivers in Germany.

I use the bus a lot, it’s also a great resource for stories ;)

Thank you Remington Write for yours.
