My three children went to school in Germany. Learning about Hitler and the evil machinery of the Third Reich was a normal part of history lessons. Also, organised school trips to concentration camps and confrontation with the horrific treatment of Jews was part and parcel of learning their history. Difficult to swallow, especially when their grandparent's generation were the perpetrators.

The history of Hitler and the Third Reich is embedded into the school currlculum with the understanding: "Never to forget what happened under Hitler in order to to avoid something horrific like this ever happening again".

Hard to imagine you can pick and choose the narrative of history in schools. What Republicans are trying to do...now that's evil! Whitewashing!
